Updates

This year there is construction at both ends of the run, which we see as an opportunity for some exciting changes!

First, this year, both the 5 KM and the 10 KM are going to finish on the arena floor!  It’s a unique opportunity presented by the construction along Father David Bauer Drive.  The races will continue along Erb past Father David Bauer, and turn right on Avondale Ave N before running through the parking lot to the finish line on the arena floor.  This is something that is successful in races in other cities and we are excited to try it for the first time in October 2013!  If it is received well, we’ll consider it again for next year.

The other big innovation for this fall is the Kids 200m Fun Run!  The one thing this race has been missing (due to it’s point-to-point nature) is an event for even the youngest children for whom 5 KM is too much.  So this year, we’re hosting a new event just for kids 12 and under!  At 11:15, just before the awards ceremony, we’re going to have the kids run one loop of the track above the arena.  Gather at the top to watch it – it’s going to be awesome!   It’s only $20, and every pre-registered kid gets a t-shirt, a number, and post-race food.  The event is for fun only, and there is no timing or awards.  If your family has already registered using a family rate, let us know and we’re happy to apply that to your child as well.

All of these changes (including the course map) are reflected in the updated race brochure and entry form, which are available to download as PDFs.  Parking is still available at the arena, off Father David Bauer Drive only (Westmount access is closed).  Note that between 9:50 and 11:00, there will be LOTS of runners, so if you want to leave during this time, feel free to make alternate parking arrangements.
