2023 is off to a sunny start! Re-Fridgee-Eighter recap

Smiles and sunshine are all we need to have a great day! Thank you for kicking off our 2023 season with the 25th Re-Fridgee-Eighter!

Finish line video and thousands of photos have been uploaded and are linked through the results page.

This year we ran out of a new location for the Re-Fridgee-Eighter, and would like to thank the University of Waterloo for being a great partner in its constant support for our events. One sacrifice of the location change was the loss of the 8 mile event. We also changed our shortest distance from 3km to 2.5km. As sad as we were to give up our signature 8 mile distance, it was exciting to see the 8km grow, with the largest number of finishers since 2014. The quality of the field did not disappoint, either:

  • The top four men finished within 30 seconds of each other, led by a top 10 all-time performance by Matthew Lozano
  • Michael Stewart took third by a mere 1 second over Aaron De Jong
  • The top four women finished within 21 seconds of each other
  • Heather Stuart cracked the top 10 all time masters list
  • The women’s field featured an appearance from two-time Olympian Noelle Montcalm. Thanks for joining us!

Events like these are by and for the community, and everybody makes a key contribution to a great day. Shout out to the participants, spectators, volunteers, WRPS, REACT, Laurel Creek and Young Athletics track clubs, the University of Waterloo and Warriors Athletics, and all of our sponsors including those present at the race: Schmidt Law Group, Domino’s Pizza, Runners’ Choice Waterloo and My Next KW Home Group. We couldn’t (and wouldn’t) do it without you.
