Runners, Take Your Barks!

It may not quite be the dog days of summer yet, but it sure looked like it at Bechtel Park this morning! Tails on Trails was a frolicking fun success, in support of the Humane Society of Kitchener-Waterloo and Stratford Perth. The tails were wagging and the trails were inviting, as over 200 dogs plus runners came out to participate in the first year of this event. The crowd was bubbling with energy, and the park was full of smiling faces, dog and human alike.

Over 1,100 photos have been posted, about half of the eventual total.

Over the years, this race has been often requested and highly anticipated. Tails on Trails celebrates the perfect intersection of everything that runners and dogs love- being outside, fresh air, staying active, getting our steps in, running with our packs. It was so fun to cheer on the runners and dogs side by side, crossing the finish line with pride.

Our running community proved that not only do they care about their dogs, but also for those animals in need. Our participants raised an amazing $16,000 (and counting!) for the Humane Society, which exceeded our goal! This fundraiser will help the Humane Society in many ways, including the ability to increase their capacity to do outreach services. Visit their website to learn more about the important work they do to support animals in our community!

The post-race festivities today were like no other, as this time we got to share the tunes and the treats with a pack of playful pups. New friends were made and lots of exercise was enjoyed. A Saturday morning well spent! Remember to tag us in your posts and stories of the event, so we can share on our social media.

Thanks for joining us today, and see you bipeds later this month at Baden!
