We’re a bit overwhelmed! Congratulations to all participants in the 45th running of the Waterloo 10 KM Classic. It was a beautiful day to spend with friends, good food, good music, and good vibes.
We will update this post constantly as we recap an incredible day, and when the thousands of photos and finish line video are ready. So far, there is a sneak peek album which represents only a fraction of those to come.
The race was a fast one, with cooler than expected temperatures and a talented field. Full results (Click through for results for 5k and 3k).
We know that this was the FIRST RACE for hundreds of people out there. We hope you enjoyed yourself and felt welcome in our great sport and community. We love it and we try to share our enthusiasm for running every chance we get!
This 10k race has evolved since it’s inception in the 1970s. It has bounced around Waterloo (and even Kitchener once…) before finding it’s current home at the University of Waterloo, where your participation has raised thousands of dollars for cross country scholarships. The race has continued to add timed events, from a 5k in the 1990s, to a 3k in the 2000s, and most recently the 200m in the 2010s. If you want to see true joy, check out the photos from the kids’ fun run!
Besides the participants (and their families; happy father’s day!), a huge thanks goes out to Waterloo Region REACT, all of our volunteers – especially Young Athletics and Laurel Creek track clubs – and all of our sponsors. None if this is possible without you. Whether you were at this race for the 1st time (Domino’s), 5th time (Waterloo Brewing), or (guessing here) 35th time (Runners’ Choice), these partners keep the lights on and clock running. Thank you.

We don’t have much more to offer right now because we’re still working on permits for our entire fall calendar. But we do have a cool membership program and our next family race is The Runway, a 2 mile on the tarmac of the Region of Waterloo International Airport in August. See you then!?

Don’t tease us like this!
Thanks again for a job well done. A very enjoyable and successful race day. Kudos to the Schmidt clan and all who made this annual event the special race it has been for so many years. Your dedication to the running community is greatly appreciated!
Thank you Paul! If we had to take a second to think about what we do this, it’s for people like YOU!
