The Run Waterloo community enjoyed a lively visit to the Township of Wilmot this morning, as we brought the energy to Baden for the 10th Annual. This race really gets our spring running season underway, and our sold-out crowd of 400 participants across all events happily hit the trails under clear blue skies and cool sunshine.
You know we like to keep runners on their toes, and this race is no exception, as runners had the option of racing not just 5k, or the 2.5k, but running both races, in our exciting Back2Back event. Lots of you were up for the challenge, and our 2.5k loop around the Wilmot Recreation Centre and through Schmidt woods proved to be fast and fun. Check out these results from the Neil Dunford memorial 5k:
And we don’t have embeddable results for the Back2Back but winners were Ian Grzegorczyk, Ian McCurdy, and Alex Domaratzki for the men, Angela Cheyne, Vicki Zandbergen, and Tanya Rhame for the women. Dave Harmsworth and Angela were the top Masters.
We love running this annual event in the Township of Wilmot. The 10th Baden Races is the successor of the New Hamburg races which ran from 1980 to 2013. Wilmot is a great place to live and run, and especially with our partnership with the Interfaith Counselling Centre. This race raised over $2,500 for local mental health counselling. But there is one more Wilmot connection that was subtle and glittery at the same time. Being runners ourselves, we know how important it is to celebrate the sense of accomplishment we feel after a race. That’s why we make sure every participant is awarded a finisher’s medal to wear and display with pride. Featuring inviting spring colours and eye-catching textures (who doesn’t love a bit of glitter?), we think the 2025 Baden medal will be a statement addition to any medal collection. Yes, this medal is a map of the Township of Wilmot.
The first 700 photos are live now and that is about half of the eventual total. Visit our Flickr site to see and download these free images.
Whether you ran 2.5k, 5k, 7.5k, or the 200m fun run, or whether you were there to volunteer or cheer (or both!), thanks to one and all for coming out today to join us in beautiful Baden. This year’s race was a milestone at its 10th year and is going strong, thanks to our vibrant running community and generous sponsors.
We have lots of mileage left in our spring lineup so we hope to see you at our upcoming events- The Conflux on May 31 (did you know this is FREE for RW Members?), Lakeside Laps on June 7 (fundraiser for Brain Injury Awareness), and on June 14 and 15, the event everyone is waiting for – the biggest Waterloo 10 KM Classic in history. Spread over 2 days, with Big Dipper and Little Dipper events, featuring a truly out of this world and one of a kind medal, with a record setting field, this is one run you will not want to miss. Check out our website for more details, registration, and information on all the many benefits of RW membership.
To all participants, congrats on another successful Baden in the books, and don’t forget to tag us in your posts and stories on social media so we can share your photos, results, and achievements. See you again soon!
