NEW EVENT: Tails on Trails!

You’ve been asking for years, and it’s finally here! A race for your dog (and you, too!) The Humane Society of Kitchener-Waterloo and Stratford Perth (in association with Run Waterloo) is bringing you the first Tails on Trails this May!

We’ve been working together for months and we’re excited to finally share it with you. In their own words, here is what this is all about!

Run Waterloo. What should people know about you and the work you do?

Humane Society. The Humane Society of Kitchener-Waterloo and Stratford Perth (Humane Society) is completely self-governed and self-funded- which means we do not receive any government funding to complete the important work we do in our community. The Humane Society does much more than care for and find loving families for animals without homes, but we also provide a plethora of critical community outreach services to help keep pets in homes. From the Pet pantry program that helps ensure local pets remain fed during uncertain times, to outreach clinics, designed to provide veterinary care and assessments to folks that unable to provide such care on their own and many other programs in-between. The Humane Society also provides important education opportunities for children- from camps to school visits, to ensure the next generation of pet owners are equipped to be responsible pet owners.

RW. What’s the story behind this event?

HS. This fundraising run was born out of runners seeking dog friendly races and active dog owners seeking new and different activities to do with their dogs! Whether you’re a seasoned runner or an evening dog walker, this event is for you! We want to embrace the bond between nature and physical activity and share that experience with our canine companions! All with a fundraising element in support of the Humane Society’s ‘Better Together’ Capital Campaign. The ‘Better Together’ campaign seeks to build a new outreach centre building at our current site and expand the critical outreach activities we already provide in the new space, renovating our existing building and deploying an outreach vehicle.

RW. Why is Run Waterloo a great fit for this event?

HS. Run Waterloo aligns with our love of getting outside and being active with our pets! Engaging in an active, healthy lifestyle is not only good for you but good for your dog too! My exercising regularly together you can ensure your pup has a strong and healthy body and combat some of the effects of aging as the years pass by. Run Waterloo also regularly engages with the community and non-profit organizations just like us. We love a good community oriented organization!

RW. What else can runners look forward to?

HS. We will have snacks and activations on site as well as swag bags for fundraisers featuring some of your favourite brands. Stay tuned for more details! The Humane society also has great fundraisers and events/programs throughout the year, both to do with your pets or on your own!

RW. How can our community get involved?
HS. We are always looking for new volunteers, fundraisers, partners and to build our community! Visit our website to learn more and connect with us everywhere you consume social media!
