A record-setting month for Canadian athletics

What a month for athletics in Canada!

Canadian records on the track? You’ve got them. Gabriela DeBues-Stafford and Mohammed Ahmed both set new 5,000m marks!

Ahmed broke his own record and becomes the first Canadian under 13:00, at 12:58.16. The women’s record is now 14:51.59, which breaks a 16-year-old record!

And in the 800, Nate Reich crushed the previous world record for T 38!

What about on the field? Two more athletes bested their own previous Canadian records! First, Brittany Crew with 18.69m in the shot put.

Then Alysha Newman at 4.76m in the pole vault, last weekend, in Guelph!

Last, here’s a fun one: Damian Warner ran the fastest-ever 100m in decathlon history. Wow!

We were also following OFSSAA track and field this month. Lots of great local performances and success stories.

For the second year in a row, Hamilton's Miles Misener Daley won the rare 100, 200, 400 metre triple at OFSAA. This year…

Good luck to all those racing the Canadian 10,000m and road half marathon championships this month. We’ll be watching!
