2019 Fall Classic

Last year, we bragged about 3 sub-15 times on our course…. this year we had SIX sub-15, including a sub-14!! It’s getting redundant to talk about all the record performances the Fall Classic brings, but what else can we say? Corey Bellemore, world record holder in the beer mile, gave it his all and finished a heartbreaking 0.1s behind the record for the fastest 5k by a Canadian on Canadian soil. He obliterated the race record here by 22 seconds, as did second place finisher Mike Tate whose official time was 14:02. Elite Canadian triathlete Dominika Jamnicky threw down a huge course record as well, running 16:06.

The photos have begun uploading check back as we upload thousands of free photos over the coming days!

Fall 5 KM Classic - Jake Rice

The elite runners were the top story of the day, but this race isn’t only for the elites. Our largest 5k since 2014 is a family event, accessible to all, and open to everyone. Every autumn, runners enjoy a fun and fast event, and this year certainly didn’t disappoint.

Results

Just, wow. Congrats to hundreds of new 5k PBs today! There were 120 runners under 20 minutes.

Today saw the fastest 5k in RW history for male, female and masters female categories. In teams, records were set in Open, Spouse and Parent-Child (HURAS beating the old SCHMIDT record from 2005!

Our friends the Jesse Webber Trio kept the party rocking while we welcomed in all finishers, ate an early lunch, and enjoyed every second of the kids 200m.

How did you like our new volunteer colours? The “Here to help Start to Finish” was a gift from our friends at Aubs & Mugg. Let’s hear it for the incredible volunteers! Did you run with one of our pace bunnies today?

Huge thanks to our core partners Saucony Canada, Runners’ Choice, and Waterloo Brewing for being there at the finish, and all year long!

We could not do this without the City of Waterloo, Region of Waterloo, Waterloo Regional Police Service, and the WRPS Auxiliary Unit. We work closely with these partners to ensure that a large event that cuts across so many key corridors can be as smooth and seamless as possible.

Health and Performance brought nearly 10% of the entire field, and threw down a number of impressive times! It’s always great working with our community partners, with regular groups like Running Rarebits, fischer Canada and Orangetheory Fitness, and some fresh faces from SorbaraLaw, GSP Group and the new Club Pilates Waterloo.

What a great event! Thanks to all the organizers and volunteers, and of course the 22 minute pace bunny.
