A Running Story

[A new feature of running news – running stories.  First one from Lloyd.]

A running first, for me.

In my 35 years of running, no one has ever passed me while I was out on a training run. Until today. I agree that it would be rare for this to happen. I run odd routes at odd times, but 35 years is a long time. But today, while I was practicing pacing at 4:00/km, all of a sudden an arm came around me and hugged me. It was quite startling to say the least, since I was moving pretty good. It was my son Jordan. He was out training too, and saw me in the distance. He had to run pretty far at sub 4:00/km pace to catch me. As he hugged and past me, it felt like “nice pace pop, just try to keep up now”. We chatted and ran at that pace for another 4 km until we each had to turn and make our way back to our respective homes. Thought I’d “pass” this along.

If you have any interesting running stories, please share with the RunWaterloo family!

DSC_0223 Jordan and Lloyd ran the Around The Bay 30k race the next week. At 0.5 seconds, this is the first time Jordan has ever beaten Lloyd in a race.

Lloyd, I am sure it made you proud.
BTW, I am glad neither of you are in my age group. 😉

35 years ago, when we were 16, you were training for your first marathon. I rode my bike beside you while you ran, but in the end, couldn’t keep up with you. Evidently, you’ve been fast for a very long time.
