This is a quick update on our new VolRUNteer recognition program that we launched in January. Eugene Ho is the first person to take advantage of the program and earn the 50% credit to an upcoming race!
We welcome all to join our VolRUNteer crew; just sign up for the list and find your opportunities here. Many of our volunteers come through our track club partnerships, but we are actively recruiting unattached volunteers like Eugene and no experience is necessary. We have current openings for GrandWay 5k, Baden, and Waterloo Classic.
We checked in with Eugene after the race to share his experience with the VolRUNteer program. The following is a concise interview designed to give you a little bit of insight and confidence to sign up to VolRUNteer!
How did you hear about it? I heard about the program through my friend who had seen it on the website. She thought it was a good idea.
Can you share a bit of your decision process? I decided to volunteer because it would be fun and it would be a good experience to see the other side how it works. Plus, the 50 percent off was good idea as well!
As an unattached volunteer, what was your experience? My experience was great. It was nice meeting everyone and helping to set up and tear down the sound and timing equipment. I also printed off the runners times at the end. (pictured)
What is your recent volunteer background? I’ve been volunteering on Saturdays when I can with Victoria parkrun, Kitchener. It’s a great group of people.
Bottom line, would you recommend it? The program is worth it, and as an outsider in a sense, it’s great idea for students that need their volunteer hours, and for other people to see the other side of the race and what it takes to put it on. I would definitely recommend it!
Thank you Eugene, for being a critical part of our 2023 Re-Fridgee-Eighter crew. Eugene now has the option to cash in on the 50% discount, or stack up a second one for a completely free entry! We look forward to getting you back in the races soon!
