FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Update: Official courses announced June 19, 2015
The Waterloo Classic Road Races will not be held at University Stadium in 2015. The races will start and finish at Resurrection Catholic Secondary School, 455 University Avenue West, Kitchener.
“By running through both Waterloo and Kitchener, we hope participants enjoy the opportunity to run on different streets and through different neighbourhoods” explains Lloyd Schmidt, Race Director.
The race is permanently affected by light rail transit (LRT), however this venue change is a recent development. “Our new courses from University Stadium were planned and approved last fall, but recent LRT construction developments have forced a change to a completely new location.” This is a one-year-only change and the Waterloo Classic will return to its original home in 2016.
Schmidt, who ran the first Waterloo 10km Classic in 1978, appreciates this tradition. “We didn’t want to leave University Stadium this year, but we are excited for this one-time opportunity to run out of Resurrection. One of the defining elements of the event – finishing on a track – will stay the same.” Special care will be taken to minimize congestion at the start and end of all races.
Exact course routes will be posted on RunWaterloo.com as soon as final course approvals are received. With any comments or concerns, call Lloyd Schmidt directly at 226-750-0017.
