Miles of tarmac – the perfect way to spend a late summer morning. This exhilarating event is back at the Region of Waterloo International Airport for an eighth year!
This fun race is back in its eighth year, with the 2 mile run and walk, as well as a 5 mile run. Join us for a flat race with great views, and a fun atmosphere with a behind-the-scenes look at the airport. Whether you’re pounding the pavement or or run/walking for fun, this family friendly event is a great way to spend a summer evening.
Airports connect communities to the world and enable local businesses to compete globally. We’re excited to collaborate with the Region of Waterloo International Airport on this thrilling experience for the running community!

Event categories
During registration, each timed participant (2mi and 5mi) chooses to compete in one of these four category types:
- Age Groups: Up to 12 | 13 – 15 | 16 – 19 | 20 – 29 | 30 – 39 | 40 – 49 | 50 – 59 | 60 – 69 | 70+
- Weight Categories: F160+lbs / M190+lbs
- Adaptive Athlete
- Walker
Category awards
Within a minute of finishing, participants can visit the results kiosk for a sticker printout of your time and stats, and if you placed top 3 in any of the above categories you will receive an engraved plate to stick in the recess of your finisher medal. This happens while the race is still running, you don’t need to wait for anything.
Finisher awards
All finishers receive a finisher medal and a special pin at the finish line. The pin is based on these time standards:

Course and venue maps
The certified loop is 2 miles long, with an out section, a full mile back stretch, two bends 40 metres in diameter, and a home stretch. The 2 mile event is one complete loop. The 5 mile event starts at the halfway point and consists of 2 and a half loops.
Parking is available on the streets near the operations centre. Approach only from Kossuth and be directed to a parking spot by a highly visible marshal.

All parking for this event takes place on New Germany Lane, steps from the Operations Centre. Inside the maintenance bay you’ll find music, healthy snacks, and witness a summer sunset.
Course Rules
Time limit: The time limit for the 2mi is 50 minutes and the 5mi is 80 minutes. All participants must be off the tarmac by 12:00 p.m. at the latest. Starting at the 4 mile marker, if participants are slower than 65 minutes, they will be pulled off the course. This is a strict limit.
Participant swag
All participants receive a finisher medal (new for 2024).
Every participant that signs up by August 12 will have the option to purchase a t-shirt in their selected size. When choosing a t-shirt, consult this guide. Shirts may be available after this point, but first choice of sizing is not guaranteed.
Stickers in the same theme will be available at kit pickup on a first-come basis.
Also, every finisher receives a finisher pin (pictured right; see awards section for more information).

Online through Race Roster. No refunds. Deferrals and transfers are available for $15 until Tuesday, August 27 at midnight.
Kit pickups and race weekend registration
Saturday, August 31: kit pickup at Airport Operations Centre 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
