Mother Nature could not have timed the first real snowfall of the year any better, coming down softly on a Friday night to blanket the course of the 5th annual Santa Pur-suit in north Waterloo. Over 600 Santas lined up in front of the Stork Family YMCA for a 1, 3 or 5km jaunt on a crisp, snow-covered winter morning. There was so much good cheer: some runners added special touches to their suits, while others played and sang carols for all to hear, hot chocolate with marshmallows awaited everyone at the finish, and lots of charitable donations were made to the KW YMCA. Over the past five years this race has raised over $40,000 for the cause. The YMCA, presenting sponsor Your Neighbourhood Credit Union and Run Waterloo thank you all for your support!
Top finishers today were Jonathan Redfearn and Joan Chung in the 5km and Dustin Corey, defending his 2015 win, and Sarah Heesaker in the 3km. H+P Dashers took the open 5km title in a heavily contested team competition, while Team Hannah cleaned up in the 3km open team competition.
Several new race records were set today as well, despite the snow: Larry Bradley (masters male) and Olive the ‘Other’ Reindeer – Scott Dickie and Cassidy Deleplanque (spouse team) in the 5km, and LEGS OF STEEL (corporate team) and Bardown Novice White (school team) in the 3km.

Congratulations to all runners and walkers on a terrific last race of 2016!
