Fall updates from Run Waterloo

Hello again. As we announced in July, we have stayed up-to-date with the latest research and best practices, while also believing that outdoor running is an inherently safe activity to do while key safety protocols are followed. Since then, we’ve been hard at work on our return to racing, and while we feel like we’re ready to go, we are going to take it slow. Here are a few quick but important updates for you.

Vaccinations are required
In September, Athletics Ontario announced that that all staff, volunteers, and participants of sanctioned events must be vaccinated. We applaud this decision and are happy to comply with all of our events going forward for as long as it is in effect.

Return To Racing phase starting in December
We are going to start small, with in-person events over the winter. We expect this to be a temporary phase as we continue to ease back into events slowly. What does that mean? If you want to give input or receive updates on our first events back, please join our Return To Racing mailing list, which will only be used for this purpose and will be retired in Spring 2022.

No restrictions on deferred entries
Our messaging on deferred entries did change since the spring of 2020, but we have tried to be as clear as possible since then: anybody with a deferred entry will have lots of time and opportunity to use the deferred entry, once we have races available, hopefully throughout 2022. No action is required.

RememberRun fundraiser
The Preston Legion approached us about a Poppy Fund fundraiser for 2021, and here it is. It’s a virtual fundraiser, but with an optional group run component.

We expect to be back to racing in the spring of 2022.
Thank you for being patient with us. We will be back together before you know it.
