Trail Tour: Bechtel Park

DSC_0701

Best Features

The trails at Bechtel Park include over 2 km of grass/woodchip trail and over 2 km of shaded woodchip trail. The footing isn’t technical, but there are some steep climbs to keep it challenging. It’s a great place for a group run. I could share a personal story about running there, here.

Events

Bechtel Park is home to many events, including ENDURrun Stage 3. Many highschool cross country meets run these trails, and the Waterloo Marathon also starts in the park.

Getting there

It’s easy to get to by bicycle or bus. There is lots of parking. It also connects to the Hillside trail system using a culvert under Highway 85 south of University Avenue.
Address: 185 Bridge St, Waterloo

Venue

Bechtel Park is owned and operated by the City of Waterloo. In addition to maintaining the trails, there are tennis courts, a leash-free dog park, a jungle gym, a baseball diamond, and indoor and lit musically followers outdoor soccer fields. Washrooms and a water fountain are accessible during business hours.
