The Battle of Waterloo is a multi-race challenge. Previous competitions: BOWI and BOWII.
A race at 11:00am? That’s the new RememberRun, including its brand-new 11k distance. If this has thrown off your pre-race routine, here’s a quick primer on the final stage of the Battle of Waterloo III this morning.
The Battle of Waterloo III consists of three 5ks: the challenging, loopy Laurier Loop, the fast, downhill Oktoberfest Run and the neutral RememberRun.
On the start line for the final stage, Sean Delanghe (BOWI winner) looks to be running away with the men’s event and Gillian Willard has a nine minute lead in the women’s event. But in a 5k, anything can happen; some great battles are emerging deeper in the roster:
* Fraser and Ian are 30 seconds apart for second place
* Martin has a 4 second lead on H+P teammate Gill
* Ian leads Ryan by 34 seconds for fifth place
* Tracy, Valerie and Candice are all with 85 seconds for third place
* Cari and Laura are 31 seconds apart.
Individually, we saw some great personal improvements from Leg 1 to Leg 2. Part of this improvement is surely aided by the course conditions, but the runners are also deeper into their fall 5k training. All but one of the competitors ran faster in Leg 2, with an average improvement of over 1:30! Leading the pack is Mike who improved by over 11 minutes. We look forward to seeing the end result of this fall fitness challenge!
Unfortunately, with a multiple-stage event, there are inevitably dropouts. Original BOWI alumni Nic, Rachael and Paul have missed a stage and are disqualified from BOWIII. (Paul also won BOWII and signed up for every RunWaterloo event in 2015!)
Good luck to the runners remaining in the Battle!
