Winter races now open: Re-Fridgee-Eighter and cone5togo

We are excited to kick of 2024 with two winter races:

Re-Fridgee-Eighter : a winter test of fitness.

The ‘Fridgee-Eighter’ 8 Mile race started in the 1970s and ceased in the 1980s. It was run out of the YMCA on Lincoln Road in Waterloo. Run Waterloo ‘Re’-cycled, ‘Re’-used, ‘Re’-juvinated, ‘Re’-introduced, ‘Re’-covered The ‘Fridgee-Eighter’ in 1998, ‘Re’-naming it The “Re-Fridgee-Eighter” and went metric with an 8 KM instead of the 8 Mile and adding a 3 KM Fun Run as well, to allow participation by runners, joggers, walkers and families of all ages and abilities.

Over the years, we have held either an 8 KM or an 8 Mile distance, or both, and for 2024 we are going back to the roots and also adding the first 5k.
– From 1998-2004 the race was held at UWaterloo Forbes Hall (8k only).
– From 2005-2022 the race was held at RIM Park (8k and 8mi)
– From 2023-2024 the race returned to UWaterloo at CIF (8k in 2023, 8mi and 5k in 2024).

cone5togo: a rural 5k road race at the tail end of winter.

This will be the third running of the cone5togo in the Township of Woolwich. The race is an out-and-back 5k out of the Conestoga Golf Club in the the village of Conestogo, home to 1,300 people.

And then we’re into spring and a great 2024 of racing. Check out the full calendar and make sure to update your RW membership. See you on the roads and trails (and track and runway) in 2024!
